PROJECT: ARTS & CRAFTS WORKSHOPS

It is proven that in the formative years, encouraging children to spend time on arts and crafts projects promotes creative play and helps them to understand the benefits of concentration and dedication to a task. With so many pressures on schools to meet targets, creative play and crafts can often be overlooked in the school environment. Arts & Crafts workshops when delivered effectively and by a competent facilitator can stretch children’s imaginations, enabling them to improvise and ‘go with the flow’. It is important for children to see adults and other children engaged in creative work as it implies that creativity is an essential human quality. Art workshops can stimulate children’s curiosity and awareness of different ways of

exploring the world around them. Although the benefits of involvement in these workshops may not be quantitatively measured, observation of children in these workshops over a period of time illustrates the positive impact of such workshops. The benefits include enhancement of a child’s ‘soft’ skills including boosted self confidence, improved communication skills, increased levels of concentration and improved ability to think laterally or creatively. CEDF runs Arts & Crafts workshops at a number of community venues including schools and learning centres. Sessions can be tailored to suit the organisation and may be held during school hours, after school, during school holidays and even weekends. Various themes have been explored previously through these sessions including Animals, Space, Asian and Afro Caribbean Art, Black History Month and Family Learning. The tutor is happy to incorporate activities which support pupils' learning as part of the National Curriculum subjects. We are planning many new and exciting projects during the school holidays and weekends. If you or your organisation is interested in running a project at your venue or have an innovative project idea please get in touch with us.
