HINTS
Some tips on helping your child learn Panjabi:
- Try planning some time, say 10 – 15 minutes every week to listen to Panjabi radio stations – see the suggested list below.
- Make it relevant! Write your weekly shopping list together with your child e.g. yoghurt, grapes, garlic, tea, etc. Remember there will be items which do not have a literal Panjabi translation e.g. Pepsi, cereal, iceburg lettuce, etc.
- Create labels for everyday items around your home i.e. items of furniture, this is very simple to do - all you need is some paper, a marker and blu tak. If you can’t write Panjabi don’t fret you can write the transliterated version of the word.
- If you or a family member can speak Panjabi, spend a few minutes speaking to your child in Panjabi. Encourage him / her to reply in Panjabi if possible.
